I am trying a new community building experiment: aggregating Wisconsin biotech industry news into newsletter format. I’ve been pondering this approach for a while now and the most recent Biotech in Wisconsin meetup tipped the scales. Katie Hill from Luminex engaged the group around social media in the life sciences and indicated that scientists are still heavy users of the email newsletter format.
If you’re wondering (as I did), whether this experiment will be time consuming. I pass along these stories via social media (on Twitter and the BioForward LinkedIn group) so the time invested should simply be compilation every week or two. I’ve launched the newsletter using MailChimp, which I already use for work and is very user friendly. I am estimating 15 minutes every week or two but will let you know.
I’ve launched with one subscriber (as long as I can count myself) and will let you know how the experiment goes.
